What Is It Used For?
Rozerem is used for the treatment of Insomnia. The medication
induces sleep and causes relaxation. The drug is not recommended
for patients with hypersensitivity to ramelteon or any components
of the formulation.
How Is It Used?
Take Rezorem with a full glass of water thirty minutes before
going to bed. You can take the medication with or without food
but avoid taking it after heavy fat meal. Do not crush or chew
the tablet, take each tablet whole. Avoid doing physical activity
after taking the medication. Do not opt for the medication without
consulting your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Are There Possible Side Effects?
The most common adverse events seen with Rozerem are somnolence,
dizziness, and fatigue. Talk to your health care provider if you
experience a worsening of insomnia or any new mental or physical
problems that concern you.
Rezorem can also cause decreased sex drive, excessive flow of
milk from the breasts during nursing or milk flow from the breasts
that are not associated with childbirth or the nursing of an infant
in women loss of period and fertility problems in women. If you
face any such problem, immediately contact your health care professional.
Is It Safe?
Rozerem works by stimulating the so-called "melatonin receptors"
in your brain. (The fancy name for melatonin receptors are "the
MT1 receptor" and the "MT2 receptor"). These receptors
adjust sleep by making sure that your body's internal clock is running
correctly.
It is believed that when you wake up from a Rozerem induced sleep,
you will have no after effects unlike other sleeping pills, and
that Rozerem is safe for long term use.
What About Interactions With Other Drugs?
Do not take Rozerem with other medications like fluvoxamine, rifampin,
ketoconazole, fluconazole without taking your doctors advice.
You may not be able to take Rozerem or you may require a dosage
adjustment or special monitoring during treatment.
What If I Miss A Dose?
Since Rozerem is usually taken only if you need it to help you
sleep, missing a dose will not cause any problems.
How Should It Be Stored?
Store the medication at room temperature away from moisture and
heat. Keep Rozerem as well as other medications out of children's
reach.
Anything Else I Should Know?
Rozerem comes under pregnancy category "C" which means
that there is no adequate and well controlled studies regarding
the use of Rozerem during pregnancy. It should only be used if
the benefits outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. In other
words, it's probably not a good idea in most cases.
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other
hazardous activities. Rozerem will cause drowsiness and may cause
dizziness. If you experience drowsiness or dizziness, avoid these
activities. Rozerem should be taken just before bedtime. You may
experience some carryover effects the next day.
