What Is It Used For?
Atorvastatin (Lipitor) helps in reducing the amounts of cholesterol
and decreases the risk of hardening of the arteries.
How Is It Used?
Each dose of Lipitor should be taken with a glass of water. It
can be taken with or without food. This medication is normally
taken once a day. It's advisable to take this dose at the same
time everyday. Doctor's instructions should be followed properly.
Eat a low-fat, low- cholesterol diet to get the beneficial effect
from Lipitor.
Do not overdose unless and until advised to do so by your doctor
or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter
or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor.

Abdominal pain; accidental injury; back pain; belching or excessive
gas; constipation; feeling of discomfort or illness; heartburn,

loss of appetite; nausea; shivering; sweating; trouble sleeping;
vomiting are some of the most common side effects of this drug
which are usually mild and tend to go away. Apart from these,
there are some serious side effects such as Headache; hoarseness;
lower back or side pain; painful or difficulty in urination; pain
or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones. The occurrence of any
of these will require immediate medical attention.
Is It Safe?
Intake of alcohol has to be limited or is better suggested to
quit while the Lipitor prescription is being used. It is recommended
that liver function tests be performed prior to administering
this drug. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided as
it could lead to dangerous effects. Lipitor should not be consumed
by a liver disease patient, pregnant or breast-feeding women.
You should not take it if you are allergic to any of its ingredients
or in case you are taking a medication that might interact with

What If I Miss A Dose?
If you miss a dose of atorvastatin, take it as soon as possible.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose

at once.
How Should It Be Stored?
OAlways store atorvastatin at room temperature between 20 and
25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). Throw away any medication that
is outdated or no longer needed and always keep the medicine away
from children.
