What Is It Used For?
Clarinex is a kind of an antihistamine, which prevents sneezing,
runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and other allergic
symptoms. It also is used to treat the symptoms of allergies and
is used for many other purposes other than those listed in medication
guides.
How Is It Used?
Clarinex comes in the forms of tablets, which should be taken
with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. It can be taken with or
without food and is usually taken once daily. Follow the directions
on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist
to explain any part you do not understand. Take Clarinex exactly
as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often
than prescribed by your doctor.
Are There Possible Side Effects?
Serious side effects from Clarinex are unlikely to occur; however
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; sleepiness, sore throat;
fatigue, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or
irregular or fast heartbeats may transpire. If these effects persist
or worsen or you notice some other effects, notify your doctor
immediately.
Less serious side effects like: dizziness, dry throat, flu-like
symptoms, muscle pain, nausea. Rare side effects may include:
acute allergic reaction, hives, itching, rapid heartbeat, rash,
shortness of breath, swelling may be more likely to occur. Talk
to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that
is especially bothersome.
Is It Safe?
Before using Clarinex, tell your doctor if you have any kind of
allergic reaction to an antihistamine; kidney disease; or liver
disease. You may not be able to take Clarinex, or you may require
a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment.
Clarinex is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that
it is not known whether Clarinex will be harmful to an unborn
baby. Do not take Clarinex without first talking to your doctor
if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
Clarinex passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant.
Do not take Clarinex without first talking to your doctor if you
are breast-feeding a baby.
What About Interactions With Other Drugs?
Prior using this medication, tell your doctor and pharmacist about
any other drugs you are taking. There are NO known interactions
between desloratadine and other medications. The use of other
oral or inhaled steroids may increase your chance of side effects
or overdose. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking
any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
What If I Miss A Dose?
If you have missed any dose, use it as soon as you remember. However,
if it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip
the missed dose and use the next one as directed. Do not use a
double dose of this medication.
How Should It Be Stored?
Store desloratadine at room temperature and keep it away from
moisture and heat. Avoid exposing the medication to temperatures
above 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius).
Anything Else I Should Know?
Use vigilance while driving, operating machinery, or performing
other hazardous activities. Although unlikely, Clarinex may cause
dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness,
avoid these activities.
