Active Ingredients: Phendimetrazine
Typical Brand Names: Bontril or Bontril-SR
What Is It Used For?
Bontril is used to curb your appetite. It is best used as a short-term
supplement to diet and exercise to assist in weight loss.
How Is It Used?
You should take Bontril at least one hour prior to meals. It is
a sustained-release, long acting product and it is important that
it be swallowed whole. If you crush or chew them you will destroy
the sustained long acting property of the medication and this
may cause increased side effects.
Because this medication may cause sleeplessness, you should avoid
taking a dose late in the day. Take this medication as prescribed.
Do not take it more often or longer than directed. It is usually
taken for 8 to 12 weeks. It is generally not recommended to take
Bontril in combination with other appetite suppressants. Consult
with a doctor before such use.
Are There Possible Side Effects?
The most common side effects reported have been experienced only
in the first few days, as the body becomes use to the medication.
They are blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, sleeplessness,
irritability, stomach upset or constipation. If these effects
persist or become annoying or troubling, inform your doctor. If
you experience chest pain, nervousness, pounding heart, difficulty
urinating, mood changes, breathing difficulties or swelling while
taking this medication-notify your doctor. If this medication
makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities
requiring alertness.
Is It Safe?
During your online consultation, tell your doctor your complete
medical history especially if you have high blood pressure, an
over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or emotional problems.
Consult with your doctor if you think you are pregnant or before
breast-feeding.
NOTE: This medication can be habit forming and must be used with
caution. It is not recommended for individuals with prior history
of addictions. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness.
Limit alcohol use. This drug is not recommended for use in children.
Ask our doctor or pharmacist for further information. BONTRIL-SR®
(phendimetrazine) is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar
to an amphetamine. It is also known as an "anorectic"
or "anorexigenic" drug. Bontril stimulates the central
nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart
rate and blood pressure to decrease your appetite.
What About Interactions With Other Drugs?
It's important to inform your doctor about all the medicines you
use, (prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take
high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone,
phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any other weight loss
medicine. Avoid taking other "stimulant" drugs that
may increase your heart rate such as decongestants (commonly found
in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine) or caffeine.
What If I Miss A Dose?
If you miss your dose of Bontril, it is important that
you DO NOT double the next dose. Just skip the missed dose and
restart your usual dosing schedule the following morning.
How Should It Be Stored?
Store your Bontril at room temperature and keep it away from sunlight
and moisture. As always, keep this medication out of the reach
of children.
Anything Else I Should Know?
Bontril is not a substitute for proper diet. It is not intended
to be a long-term diet aid. For best results, Bontril must be
used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program. Oh, and
don't share this medication with others...share our website with
