What Is It Used For?
Aciphex is used for the treatment of ulcers, gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), and other conditions involving
excessive stomach acid production. It can also be helpful for
purposes other than those listed in the medication guideline.
How Is It Used?
Take Aciphex according to your doctor's guidelines. The recommended
adult oral dose is 1 Aciphex 20 mg delayed-release tablet to be
taken once daily for four to eight weeks. Take the dose with a
full glass of water. Do not break, chew, or split the tablets.
Swallow them whole. Do not stop taking the dose even if you start
feeling better. Consult your doctor before leaving the medication.
Are There Possible Side Effects?
Aciphex may under rare circumstances cause serious side effects
like difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of
your lips, tongue, or face. Consult your doctor immediately if
you face any such allergic reaction. The common side effects which
are also very uncommon in Aciphex are as follows- headache; upset
stomach or diarrhea; insomnia or nervousness; or a rash or itching.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk
to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that
is especially bothersome.

What About Interactions With Other Drugs?
Do not take Aciphex without consulting your doctor if you are
taking any of the following medicines: ketoconazole (Nizoral),
ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon,
Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine
(Sandimmune, Neoral). Taking these medicines along with Aciphex
may require special monitoring. Drugs other than those listed
here may also interact with Aciphex. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist
before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
What If I Miss A Dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it but skip it in
case it is the time to take the next dose. Take the next scheduled
dose in such a situation.
How Should It Be Stored?
Aciphex should be stored at a room temperature (between 59°F
and 86°F) away from moisture. Keep the medication out of children's
reach.
Anything Else I Should Know?
There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activity while
taking Aciphex, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Do not
stop taking Aciphex even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms
may improve before your condition is fully treated.
